Front yard before and after

I noticed an old photo of the front yard right after we planted the yard and thought it was time to do a little comparison. About two months to the day elapsed between these shots.

The only three existing plants were the ugly tree to the right (which we plan to take down eventually), the hydrangea, and one hosta. My primary goal is low maintenance plants, so I focused on perennials and evergreens. I put in white and red impatiens, plus white and lavender alyssum in the front for my annual color. EVERYTHING else is perennial. There's an azalea in the back (peach/red blossoms), plus some lily of the valley and fern from Susie and Stan Austin's yard. I brought up A TON of plants from my parents' house in Atlanta: nandinas, another hosta, about 10 Helleborus. Plus, three dwarf gardenias on the right side. So, not only do I mostly have perennials, but the Helleborus, Azalea and Gardenias are all evergreen! Then, columbine are the tall plants in the back right. I don't remember the names of the two low-lying plants on either side of the hydrangea behind the annuals; I love them both and need to look that up.

Whew. Sounds like I should do a post just on the plants!
